Lighting Finds
jean mcintosh
As owner/builders there were many challenges associated with building the Tree House. When it came to lighting, we discovered that implementing an electrical plan didn't have to be that expensive, if one could get past the conventions normally associated with electrical plans. We spent many hours simplifying and customizing the electrical plan, and then more time sourcing the actual fixtures. We forged ahead and have been so pleased with the outcome.
The light fixtures were sourced from various digital platforms, specialty merchant websites, and good old fashioned antique/vintage shops. I had to learn not to rush a purchase, and to be patient, knowing that the right light would be found. By 'slow' shopping I learned lighting fundamentals, period specific light design, vintage light restoration tips, and how lighting–at its best–can be magical. Sourcing vintage lighting and vintage inspired lighting became one of the most rewarding parts of the build experience.
In the end, I learned that the job is to know you have found the perfect light, when you see it!
